The Technology Behind
FireBlock Lithium Gel
FireBlock combines advanced fire suppression with sustained cooling to help control fire, remove heat and reduce the risk of re-ignition.
Our lithium gel is designed to stay on the affected surface, providing continued cooling where it is needed most and making it especially effective for challenging lithium-ion battery fire risks.
Advanced Fire Suppression for Lithium-Ion Battery Fires
Lithium-ion batteries power the technology we depend on every day, from electric vehicles and energy storage systems to laptops, mobile phones, aircraft equipment and data centres. But when a lithium-ion battery fails, the resulting fire can be extremely difficult to control.
FireBlock Lithium Gel is an advanced fire suppression solution designed to rapidly control fire, remove heat and reduce the risk of re-ignition.
Unlike conventional fire suppression methods that may focus primarily on extinguishing visible flames, FireBlock is designed to address one of the biggest challenges associated with lithium-ion battery fires: heat.
By combining rapid fire suppression with sustained cooling, FireBlock helps control the fire while continuing to remove heat from the affected area.
What Is FireBlock Lithium Gel?
FireBlock Lithium Gel is a specialised fire suppression and cooling agent developed for challenging fire environments, including lithium-ion batteries.
When applied, the gel adheres to the burning or overheated surface rather than simply running away from it. This allows FireBlock to remain in contact with the affected material and continue absorbing heat after the initial flames have been controlled.
The gel creates a protective layer around the affected area, helping to suppress the fire, cool the material and reduce the possibility of the fire starting again.
This makes FireBlock particularly suitable for situations where thermal runaway, extreme temperatures and re-ignition are significant risks.
FireBlock can also be used on conventional fires, making it a versatile fire suppression solution for a wide range of industries and applications.
Designed for Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Suppression
Lithium-ion battery fires behave differently from many conventional fires.
When a battery cell becomes damaged, overheated, overcharged or experiences an internal failure, it can enter a process known as thermal runaway.
During thermal runaway, a battery cell can rapidly generate heat and potentially cause neighbouring cells to overheat as well. In larger battery packs, this can create a chain reaction that becomes increasingly difficult to control.
Simply extinguishing the visible flames does not necessarily mean the danger has passed.
If sufficient heat remains inside the battery or surrounding cells, the battery can potentially ignite again.
FireBlock is designed to tackle this challenge by providing both fire suppression and prolonged cooling.
Instead of focusing only on the flame, the gel remains on the affected surface and continues removing heat.
How FireBlock Lithium Gel Works
Suppress
FireBlock rapidly covers the affected area, helping to control the fire and suppress the flames.
The gel forms a layer over the burning material, limiting the conditions required for the fire to continue.
Cool
Cooling is critical when dealing with lithium-ion batteries.
FireBlock absorbs and removes heat from the affected battery, component or surrounding material. Because the gel remains attached to the surface, cooling can continue after the visible flames have been extinguished.
Contain
The gel adheres to the affected object and helps create a protective barrier around it.
This can help control the fire and limit its ability to spread to nearby materials or equipment.
Prevent Re-Ignition
A lithium-ion battery may remain extremely hot even after the flames disappear.
FireBlock continues cooling the affected area after fire suppression, helping reduce the possibility of re-ignition caused by residual heat.

Why Cooling Matters in Lithium-Ion Battery Fires
One of the greatest challenges with a lithium-ion battery incident is the enormous amount of heat that can be generated.
In a battery pack containing hundreds or thousands of individual cells, heat from one failing cell can affect surrounding cells and potentially contribute to further thermal runaway.
For this reason, effective lithium battery fire suppression requires more than temporarily removing the flame.
The temperature needs to be brought under control.
FireBlock Lithium Gel is designed to stay where it is applied, allowing it to provide sustained cooling directly to the affected area.
This ability to remain in contact with hot surfaces differentiates the gel from suppression agents that may disperse, evaporate or flow away quickly.
